XenDesktop 5.6 & Upgrade to Microsoft SCVMM 2012

Hi guys,

Citrix has released an article on the possibilities of using Microsoft System Center VMM 2012 and XenDesktop. Here’s the outline and at the end is the link to the complete article.

“The purpose of this document is to highlight the potential issues for XenDesktop users who are planning to upgrade to Microsoft System Center 2012 Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM 2012), when SCVMM is being used by XenDesktop to monitor and control XenDesktop Virtual Desktop Agents (VDAs) hosted on a Microsoft Hyper-V server.

Although, at the time of documenting this article, XenDesktop 5.6 and SCVMM 2012 are not released products but the following points might prove to be useful for future references.”

Create failover cluster in SCVMM2012

After the Hyper-V hosts are configured and doing well in the Fabric, it`s time to take another step toward the highly available environment that everyone is demanding in today’s businesses. It`s time for Failover Clustering.
Reminder:
Both of my physical servers was installed with Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1
There are 4 NICs pre-configured on the servers, and both servers are joined to my domain.
Both servers are connected to the iSCSI-target (used for CSV in my lab).
I`ve created a RunAs account in the ‘Host computer’ category for managing my physical servers.

Create networks in SCVMM 2012

So far, I am really impressed by all the improvements in VMM 2012 when it comes to the deepintegrations with hardware resources, hypervisors, and clusters.
The possibility to administer and manage the entire eco system from a single console, is a huge benefit in our day-to-day work.
Another interesting improvement is how you can create logical and virtual networks.
In my last post, I covered the creation process of a Failover Cluster with VMM 2012.

SCVMM 2012 – Creating a HA VM Cluster

During the evolution of the VMM server product from VMM 2007 to VMM 2008 R2 we saw many customers tying their workflows to VMM and even more using VMM to carve out and give compute resources to their internal departments.
