Network Interface Card (NIC) properties cannot be changed with outdated XenServer Tools.
Once the XenServer and XenServer Tools are updated you are unable to edit the properties of the NIC when the XenServer Tools on the Virtual Machine (VM) are out of date.
After applying an update to your XenServer (and updating the XenServer Tools in the process) you receive the notification in your XenCenter console that the XenServer Tools are out of date for the Virtual Machine(s) (VM) hosted by that XenServer.

When you have XenServer 6.0.2 installed before they pulled it from the download site (like me) you can choose to either re-install the new version (188.8.131.52) or to download the 2 hotfixes Citrix has released. I choose the latter and I‘ll show you how you can install and upload the hotfixes to your XenServer.
First of all download the 2 hotfixes (XS602E001 and XS602E002) from the Citrix download page. Save the 2 files to a location of your choice.
For the best results and the least problems it’s best to update the XenServer 1 update at a time. So select 1 update per run.
Open XenCenter and go to “Tools’ and “Install software update”.

Citrix has re-released XenServer 184.108.40.206 and also released 2 separate hotfixes for the 6.0.2 version. These fixes can be downloaded here (XS602E001) and here (XS602E002).
