How to install Citrix Excalibur Tech Preview (part 2)

In the previous post I explained what the prerequisites are and what Excalibur is. In this post I’ll be showing you the basic installation of Excalibur. This setup is a single server with all options installed on 1 server. This is good for a test or PoC environment but never for a production environment. Always separate the database, StoreFront and delivery controller from each other.

  1. What is Excalibur, prerequisites and overview of test lab setup
  2. Installation of Excalibur <<Current page >>
  3. Configuring Excalibur (Studio)
  4. Configuration StoreFront
  5. Install Agent software on Windows 2012 machine
  6. Configure Application
  7. Test published application and desktop (old XenApp)

Now that we have the usual “don’t install everything on 1 box” warning here’s how to install everything…. On 1 server .

Mount the ISO you have downloaded from the Citrix website to your VM and wait for the autorun to launch. Select “Start” from this flashy startup screen.

Select “Delivery Controller” from the installation options screen.

Accept the usual EULA and select “Next” to continue with the installation options.

For this purpose select all options “Delivery Controller”, “Studio”, “Director”, “License Server” and “StoreFront”. Select “Next” to continue with configuring the Excalibur installation.

Select the option to install “SQL 2008 R2 Express” on this machine and again select “Next”…

If you have a firewall enabled on your machine you will receive this screen with the settings changed by the setup to your firewall. You can choose to automagically change the firewall or do it manually. If you choose to do it manually you need to change it before you start using Excalibur. If you forget it you will certainly run into some problems .  Select one last time the “Next” button before the installation starts.

You get a nice summary overview of the options you have selected to install. This is the last chance to change anything before the installation commences. Select “Install” if you are ready to start Excalibur.

During the installation you see this screen with the progress of the installation. At the end of the installation you can choose to launch “Studio”. Select “Finish” to close the installation.

Once the installation has finished you can start Studio. Now the configuring part of Studio starts. This will be covered in my next post.
